Meet 5 year old Chance, a large (95 pounds) lovable, Teddy bear who is a weim mix. He is a low maintenance fellow, content to be kenneled while his foster mom is at work and able to entertain himself while she is at home cooking, cleaning, or doing chores. While he enjoys belly rubs and being petted, he’s not much of a snuggler. He prefers to lay on the floor near his family while they watch T.V
Chance LOVES the outdoors and is quite passionate about hunting squirrels. He enjoys walks but he is very powerful and can pull very hard in a harness. A Gentle Leader has helped establish who is walking whom. He’s not fond of it but he’s accepting of it if it means going for a walk.
Chance does well around new people and dogs, he even shares toys and treats. However, he has a rather dominant personality and prefers submissive types. He is good with kids but due to his large size it is recommended he not be placed in a home with small children (under age 8).
Chance knows the commands: sit, stay, down, shake, go to bed, and come — although he needs some coaxing at times to come. His previous owner taught him to jump up as a greeting. This has largely been corrected by using the down command but old habits are hard to break. He will need continuing reinforcement.
Chance has a history of seizures (approximately one per month and always at night.) He is currently on a seizure medication that is working very well. He has been seizure free for over a month. This will likely be a long-term medication and roughly cost around 50.00. He is current on vaccinations, heartworm preventative, and is microchipped.
If you are looking for a loveable fellow but still want your space — Chance is your man! A fenced yard is recommended — there are just too many temptations to be trusted off-leash outside. Cats are a definite NO! Chance is fostered in Cedar Rapids, IA and his adoption fee is $150.00.
