Meet Kiah, a 2-3 year old silver female who has the “mark of the hound.” She is a very sweet little female that is looking for a home with strong leadership, structure and lots of love. Kiah is good with other dogs and adults. She had a rough start in life and can be reactive at times. Due to that she should not go to a home with kids or cats, and she would do best in a home with a stable and established dog. Kiah is energetic and her adoptive family should plan on providing her with daily exercise. Prior to being rescued, Kiah lived in a kennel in a barn and did not receive human interaction or attention.
When Kiah came into rescue she was very frightened, anxious and unsocialized. Initially Kiah struggled with anxiety but with medication, training, consistency and patience she has become quite the sweetheart. She has become more social than her foster Mom ever imagined she could be. Kiah should go to a home that is calm, stable and quiet and her family must also be willing to continue her medication.
Kiah is smart and has learned ‘come’ and ‘sit’ and walks beautifully on leash. Kiah has also learned to ‘kennel’, but her foster Mom had to gradually work up to Kiah being crated 3-4 hours at a time. Kiah does not crate longer than that and so she should only go to a home where her owner works from home or has the ability to let her out a few times during the day. Kiah enjoys going on walks, going ‘bye-bye’, peanut butter Kongs and even accompanying her Mom to the office some days to nap while Mom works. Kiah is also a morning girl and does not sleep in so her family should be an early riser, or one that is willing to get up with her early in the morning. Kiah is a very resilient and sweet girl who is anxiously awaiting a home that will provide her the structure, stability and unconditional love she desperately wants. If you can provide a home for this little girl please consider opening your heart and home to Kiah. Kiah is fostered in Des Moines and her adoption fee is $250.00.
