Candi with the “crew”
Hi, my name is Candi and I serve on the rescue’s Board as secretary/treasurer. I have been with rescue since 2009. I started in rescue fostering Weims. To date, I have fostered 13 Weims. I love getting to know each dog and their special quirks. Each one has integrated into my home like one of the pack. Even though it’s hard to say goodbye when the time comes, it’s satisfying knowing that I’ve helped them find a loving forever home! My volunteer duties have expanded: I continue to foster dogs, and now assist with applicant screening, rescue guide development, transporting dogs coming into my home, and editing.
I have a very active household that includes 7-year-old Weim, Miss Ellie Mae, 7-year-old Springer Spaniel, Bailey that thinks he is a Weim with spots, and three special needs Weims, Skylar, 2, Marvin, 8, and Kodi, 3. I am a member of the Upper Iowa Training Club and I have completed two legs of a Novice Rally Title with my Weim Ellie Mae.
I am especially interested in pack dynamics and behavior modification for reactive dogs utilizing positive reinforcement and clicker training. I have been training at the Good Dog Center in Decorah, IA and Dog’s Best Friend in Madison, WI. This summer I’m planning a trip to Connecticut to attend a Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) seminar presented by Grisha Stewart.
I am a Certified Nurse Midwife at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; however, I live in rural NE Iowa with my husband Dale, our pack of dogs, and 16 horses.
Please consider volunteering! We are always in need of foster homes, but there are many other ways you can become involved with rescue too. Please check out the volunteer section on our website. You get so much in return – satisfaction, friendship, knowledge, skills, and more.
