We have been a part of IWR since 2013. We have had Weimaraners for 15 years. Our first Weimaraner was named Gunnar; he was a big boy weighing in at 110 lbs. He was a gentle giant; the most loving silver you had ever laid eyes on. Two years after bringing Gunnar into our lives we added Oakley to our family and they quickly became best friends. They grew up together and passed away within 2 years of each other at the age of 13. Needless to say we were devastated. We then added to our family with our current blue Weimaraner, Winston, and let me tell you he is all puppy…and we love it.
Before we knew there was a rescue, we fostered a Weimaraner from a client of mine that could not keep her. We fostered her and found her an amazing home. Once we found the rescue we knew we had to be involved with the rescue. We immediately put in an application to become volunteers. We have temporarily babysat for foster families, fostered dogs, helped with home inspections and several rescue events. Each dog that has come into our lives holds a special place in our heart, and it’s hard to let them go. But knowing that each forever home is carefully chosen through a collaborative process, and all involved feel it’s a perfect match is reassuring to us. As each Weimaraner leaves they take a little piece of our hearts with them. We feel that this makes more room in our hearts to help yet another Weimaraner in need. We have been blessed to be a part of this organization and look forward to continuing our volunteer journey for many years to come.
