We are looking for the right match for foster Athena!

Non-negotiable:
✅She needs another stable dog.
✅Some who works from home or is home most of the time.

My name’s Athena and I turned 5 in April. I came to Iowa Weimaraner Rescue because I have separation anxiety and my family was worried they weren’t able to give me the best life possible. I’ve been in my foster home since The end of December 2025 and have adjusted well. I get along with the resident dogs (a Weim and a husky mix).

I had kids in my old house and my foster mom has a niece and nephew that come over a lot and I do great with them!
I am hesitant when meeting new people and can take some time to warm up. Same goes for new dogs. I’m usually a little nervous, especially when they’re really excited.

I have gone to doggy boarding when my foster mom was on vacation and I did well as long as I was with my doggy foster siblings, so I’d probably do best in a house with a canine buddy. I’m not sure about cats, the only one I ever met ran away before I could introduce myself.

I do have separation anxiety, I’m on Prozac and I’ve been working on it. I can stay home comfortably for about 4 hrs but much more than that, I start to get anxious and bark a lot. I’m not destructive, just really vocal. I really don’t like the crate. The one time I was in it at my foster mom’s I drooled a lot and tried to scratch my way out. My foster mom prefers applicants have someone who is home most of the time. I.e. Work from home or stay at home parent.

I know my basic commands, sit, wait, shake, and at meal time I sit and wait until my foster mom say it’s “OK” to eat. I walk pretty well on a gentle lead but if I see a squirrel or rabbit, I’m probably going to try to chase it.

I’m over all a great dog, I just like to be by my people as much as possible.

Thank you for this post! Here was my goodbye letter to Mr har man! Thank you for all the love everyone! Harley- Thank you! Thank you for finding me through Iowa Weim Rescue back in September 2013! Your first few months of life weren’t perfect but then our worlds collided! On September 1, 2013 I drove 3 hours on the hope that you would connect with me and we could be a pair. The moment I saw you, you ran towards me and knocked me over to give me kisses. I instantly knew that we were meant to be together! We spent the next year in Iowa together, you helping me through a very dark time in my life, me coming out the other side with hope and excitement! Thank you for being there for me! We moved back to Colorado and you endured a 13 hour drive even though you HATED being in the car. You got to spend a lot of time getting to know Nana, Papa and your Auntie. Loveland was good to us! We got a lot of hikes and runs in, but most of all in December of 2015 you met your momma!! We moved to Grand Junction, and not long after we walked in the door with a tiny puppy named Pali. You in your 95lb body were so scared of this tiny puppy but you grew to love her, even when she was hanging from your ears by her teeth! You were her alpha and helped her learn her way as a dog. You raised her just and much as Mom and I did. Thank you! Pali will miss you so much! Then the big bomb dropped. We brought home a wild child of a boy, Lander. Then 2 years later, Watson. Thank you for getting your ears yanked, climbed on, ridden, pushed over, covered in stuffed animals and for cleaning up all their thrown food! Your name was one of the first words for both the boys and they may not understand yet but they will miss you greatly! Thank you Harley! Thank you for being there for me in such a dark time in my life and helping me get through to the other side so that I could have the family I have now. Thank you for loving Katie so much and showing her how amazing of a pup you are! Thank you for being such a good big brother to Pali, Lander and Watson! I’m beyond sad to have you leave this world, but so grateful for the impact you had on your people. I love you Harley Boy! Thank you for 13 amazing years!

He was a good boy and perfect match for his dad and later his family. ❤️❤️❤️
